Berlin and Mount Hope in Amish Country

Today’s tour through Holmes County

Walnut Creek:

‘Yoder’s Amish Home was purchased in 1972 by Eli and Gloria Yoder.  Somewhat unsure of what to do with the badly run down farm which had been rented out to Amish families for 10 years, Eli and Gloria decided to do what they had in the back of their minds all along.  After extensive repairs (the little house was being used as a chicken coop!), Yoder’s Amish Home was opened for visiting in 1983.

Eli had been part of the Old Order Amish faith until the age of 21.  Gloria was raised “English” in an Amish community, having gone to a mostly Amish school until the 5th grade and lived just about ½ mile from Eli.  With both of their heritages rooted in this culture and community, they thought it would be a great idea to share this unique culture with visitors from all over the world.  For the past 20 plus years, Yoder’s Amish Home has been striving to give visitors an inside look at our culture and people.  Stop in and visit – we are glad to host you.“

Berlin:

Mt Hope:

“Gloria Yoder is “Mrs. Yoder”. She grew up in Mt. Hope, the same town where she now owns of one of the area’s most outstanding local restaurants. Early in life, she was a oddityy- an “English” child in a school where a majority of the students were Amish. Today, at the tables in her “kitchen”, Amish and English feast side by side. Both neighbors from down the road and travelers from far away know where to come when they crave a good, home-cooked meal. The restaurant is a favorite stop for locals, who come in to cool off or warm up on auction days, depending on the season.

Mrs. Yoder’s Kitchen has been serving quality food to the local community for over 15 years. People come from miles around to enjoy a home cooked meal. If the traditional amish cooked meal isn’t for you, try some of our other mouthwatering dishes. From our BBQ Baby Back Ribs, to our succulent Pork Chops the choice is yours. There is something for everyone. We now offer full service catering to accommodate even more of your needs.”
